Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Comply with refrigeration and air conditioning workplace policies and procedures
  2. Clarification on how particular refrigeration and air conditioning work is to be carried out and the workplace procedures involved is sought from supervisor/appropriate person/s
  3. Unplanned situations are dealt with safely in accordance with workplace policies and procedures and with the approval of authorised person/s in a manner that minimises risk to personnel and equipment
  4. Monitor and respond to competency development plan
  5. Components of the refrigeration and air conditioning competency development plan are followed in accordance with workplace procedures
  6. Opportunities to practise skills and apply knowledge relevant to a particular refrigeration and air conditioning competency are pursued
  7. Assistance is sought from appropriate person/s to overcome difficulties in developing skills and applying knowledge relevant to refrigeration and air conditioning competency
  8. Progress in competency development is self-monitored against the refrigeration and air conditioning competency development plan and workplace policies and procedures
  9. Modifications to the competency development plan are made in consultation with appropriate person/s
  10. Obligations are met for periodic and timely reporting of competency development activities
  11. Periodic competency development activities report is validated by appropriate person/s in accordance with workplace policies and procedures

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least two separate occasions and include:

applying relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (WHS/OHS) requirements and workplace procedures and practices, including risk control measures

applying sustainable energy principles and practices

identifying and confirming the context, requirements and responsibilities of the competency development or training plan to be met

identifying and confirming the workplace and regulatory policies, procedures and context applicable to refrigeration and air conditioning work activities

participating in refrigeration and air conditioning work

periodically reviewing progress of the competency development activities in accordance with workplace requirements

progressing against periodic or staged evaluative performance events in accordance with workplace requirements

pursuing strategies to develop opportunities for gaining the range of workplace experiences and exposure

reporting periodically the competency development activities in accordance with workplace requirements

seeking assistance to overcome difficulties in developing competency

seeking clarification of how particular refrigeration and air conditioning work is to be carried out and the workplace procedures involved.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

competency development plan or training plan responsibilities

methods of monitoring and reporting competency development activities

relevant job safety assessments or risk mitigation processes

relevant refrigeration and air conditioning manufacturer specifications

relevant WHS/OHS legislated requirements

relevant workplace documentation

relevant workplace policies and procedures.
